Bear With Me

January 2009 - Nightwood Theatre presented the Toronto premiere of Bear With Me. Based on her laugh-out-loud book, this wickedly funny stage production is a straight-up, rollicking account of Flacks’ reluctant flight into the secret and insane world of motherhood.  Bear With Me hit Toronto in January 2009 after wildly successful tours at the Grand Theatre (London), the Magnetic North Theatre (National Arts Centre, Ottawa).

Review in Xtra Magazine (May 26, 2005)

Advance praise for BEAR WITH ME:

"Motherhood, through the eyes of the wickedly funny Diane Flacks, is a tender and tumultuous trip. If pregnancy has ever crossed your mind, you need Diane.

She made me remember, ache, shriek with laughter, well up with mushiness. Her anecdotes are voyeuristically frank and liberatingly unconventional. And her wisdom is crisp: 'You are a mother. Therefore you are technically a lunatic.' (We should all be this crazy)."
 Michele Landsberg

"I've noticed that women tell their birth stories like old men tell their war stories: 'I was in Vimy Ridge when my water broke' Diane Flacks has written a hugely entertaining and hilarious memoir of having her baby and trying to understand what just happened. Bear With Me reminds us of how important it is to keep our sense of humour through it all."
Bruce McCulloch, Kids In the Hall

"Bear With Me is a wonderful book entertaining, informative, full of wisdom and laugh-out-loud hilarious! The conception to birth of baby Eli is quite the journey.

The writing in this book is rich, passionate, and candid a real tour de force. Remarkable when you consider that a woman¹s brain shrinks when she becomes pregnant! As one of Canada¹s most talented writer/comediennes, Diane Flacks will go on to write many more 'little miracles.' And maybe even have another baby"
Luba Goy, Royal Canadian Air Farce

WALTER EGO
Walter Ego was a two-episode pilot for a tv series shot by CBC. It stars brilliant acting mavens Jackie Burroughs and Charmion King. Diane plays the best pal (and former girlfriend) of the lead, Peter Keleghan (of Newsroom and Made in Canada fame). It aired in January 2005.

LISTEN MISSY - a new 13 part sketch comedy series for the W network, produced by S&S productions (Red Green Show, American In Canada). Each episode is based on themes that range from "Love" to "Fear" to "Desire". Diane was a contributing writer and executive story editor on this fast, irreverent hot new series. She co-stars with comedy divas Kathryn Greenwood, Lisa Merchant, Jennifer Baxter and Janet Vandergraff. The series was created and written by the multi-talented Jane Ford. Look for this extravaganza of estrogen on the W network premiering in September 2004.

MOOSE TV
Moose TV was a hilarious tv pilot shot for CBC about a group of people who want to open their own tv station. Diane plays a wacky Native wanna-be who loves and loathes the idea. Moose TV is currently being developed by Showtime as a series.
SIBS - the film
Aired October 2003 on CBC, and was directed by Laurie Lynd.
"Diane Flacks and Richard Greenblatt star in the stage play SIBS, the story of a brother and sister who reflect on their lives after their father dies. Now missing both parents, the two come to terms with their childhood and adolescent years. While remaining faithful to the theatrical spirit and emotional register of the original, this film version, directed with elan by Laurie Lynd, expands the play's visual reach and serves as a how-to example of stage-to-screen adaptations. Flacks and Greenblatt belong to that rare breed of performers: drop-dead funny comedians who are equally at home in drama's darker moments. "
Globe and Mail, October 23, 2003.

RANDOM ACTS - Diane's third hit solo show was directed by Alisa Palmer. It toured across Canada to rave reviews and Diane adapted it for a CBC TV special. This fictional story of a motivational speaker who is pushed in front of a bus in a Random Act of violence explores issues of fate, the meaning behind suffering, love and our faith in cultural gurus.
